Our Greatest Fear

June 23, 2011

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some; it is in everyone. And, as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

~Nelson Mandela

  1. What an incredibly strong and powerful statement – it gave me the goose bumps!! Nelson Mandela – or “Madiba” as he is lovingly called amongst his people – is a hero and mankind is blessed to have him living amongst it! He is a beacon of light, of justice, humanity, greatness, humility – and forgiveness. He is one of a kind … I don’t know of any other leader on this planet with the same attributes all at the same time!
And the picture you chose to post underneath the statement is AS POWERFUL – and BEAUTIFUL!! Thanks for making my day!! :-)))

    How are you doing?

  2. Hey Karin,
I found no words to comment on the quote; it’s perfect as it is but I liked your comment… Our world is in bad need for more Mandelas.
I’ve finished my fourth year of studying medicine and am working on 2 research studies.
I feel glad for this post made your day. Try listening to some Jazz music by Esperanza Spalding; am listening to her music now after a long long day.
